Jalen Hurts is frustrated with Alabama

Mickey Welsh/Advertiser via USA TODAY NETWORK

Things are not going well for Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts. In fact, he might not be their quarterback for much longer. And per ESPN’s Alex Scarborough, frustrations are mounting.

“…when I see that those things are being said, that’s silly because, ‘He said this, he said that, maybe Coach [Nick] Saban said this,” Hurts starts. “Whoever said whatever, what did Jalen say? Not a thing.”

But how did this all start?

Well, it all goes back to last season’s National Championship game. The Crimson Tide would break Georgia’s hearts in the end, but it wasn’t because of Hurts. Saban would bench him at halftime to bring in Tua Tagovailoa. The rest, as they say, is history. However, Saban has said Hurts might not even be on the roster once the season starts. Is that shocking to you? Because it absolutely is to the former starting signal-caller.

Jalen Hurts critical of Alabama coaches over handling of QB situation

Hurts has been frustrated with the coaches about his status. Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

The Alabama Crimson Tide have a quarterback controversy on their hands, and have since last year’s national championship game. But one of the quarterbacks involved does not appear happy with how it has been handled.

Jalen Hurts, who was benched during the championship game in favor of Tua Tagovailoa, has been the subject of transfer rumors and chatter all summer. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Hurts said no coaches had talked to him about how he felt during the summer, and the attempts to address things with him now come too late.

Hurts also rebutted coach Nick Saban, who had said he wasn’t sure if Hurts would be on the roster when the season opened.

The Curious Case of Schwartz, Alabama’s Mystery 1906 Baseball Coach

Schwartz is #8

I was told about this mystery on reddit recently. Alabama’s baseball team first played on July 1, 1892 (a win). In the program’s history, the 1906 season stands out among them all. The squad went 4-16-1 (.216), the absolute worst season in Alabama baseball history. That would be the only season a man named Schwartz coached Alabama.

The official Alabama records list a first (or at least a nickname) and last name for every single coach in Crimson Tide history, except for the 1906 coach. Schwartz is, simply, Schwartz.

Why? Who is he? How is such a notable coach in our program’s history known in the official records by just his last name? I had to find out and unravel this mystery.

And I did.

Charles Schwartz was hired as the baseball coach likely in January, 1906. The earliest record I found was from this January 18, 1906 edition of The Montgomery Advertiser.

20 most entertaining offenses for 2018 college football season

Football is all about entertainment. And in today’s era of college football, few things are more captivating to its viewers than scoring points.

When these offenses hit the field, it’s a safe bet they’ll regularly be marching toward the end zone. While that doesn’t necessarily translate to wins — defense and special teams also matter — it certainly is enjoyable to watch.

Several schools on the list will be nationally televised often, but a couple of others are teams to remember. When there’s a lull in the action or a midweek game, be sure to flip on these squads.

Alabama Football Recruiting: The End of Summer

Nobody on the roadNobody on the beachI feel it in the airThe summer’s out of reach.

The Boys of Summer by Don Henley

The NCAA Recruiting Calendar is an odd thing. It seems senseless to have a Dead Period in the middle of summer, but there it was from June 25 through July 24. Another Dead Period runs the length of the month of August. The Crimson Tide celebrated this short respite with a second BBQ Cookout. While it was not as big as the first one, it was still received very well.

4-star OLB commit King Mwikuta was in attendance and told 247sports that he gets “homesick” whenever he LEAVES Tuscaloosa. He has moved from the No. 123 prospect to 115.

Oxford, Miss. DB Brandon Turnage made his third trip to the Capstone this summer. QBs Paul Tyson and Taulia Tagovailoa plus one of the newest commits DE Byron Young were also spotted.
